When the Food Chain Changes Clothes: The Story Behind Creature Features

Have you ever seen something so wonderfully strange that it sends your imagination running wild?

That happened to me when I discovered Samezu, the adorable shark characters created by Japanese artist Moha Arimura. Among the playful designs were a shark dressed in a seal costume—and the hilarious role reversal of a seal dressed like a shark.

It was cute, clever, and just twisted enough to make me wonder:

What if prey animals could disguise themselves as their predators?

That little question became the spark behind the Creature Features Collection.

I began imagining rabbits hiding beneath fox disguises, mice dressed as cats, penguins pretending to be orcas, and other unlikely creatures borrowing the appearance of the very animals they would normally avoid.

But I wanted to take the idea in a different visual direction. Instead of soft plush characters, Creature Features became an ultra-realistic wildlife world where the illusion catches you by surprise. At first glance, you see the predator. Then you look again—and discover the prey underneath.

Each design plays with survival, disguise, irony, and a bit of wonderfully weird humor. They are strange, unexpected, and made for people who enjoy artwork that deserves a second look.

That is what Creature Features is all about:

The predator catches your eye. The prey steals the show.
